Free Wi-Fi QR Code Generator: Let Guests Connect in One Scan
Dictating a long Wi-Fi password to every guest is slow and error-prone. A Wi-Fi QR code lets visitors join your network by pointing their phone camera at a printed square. With Loqo's free QR code generator you can make one in under a minute, with no account and no watermark.
How to create a Wi-Fi QR code
- Open Loqo and select the Wi-Fi tab.
- Type your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on your router, including capital letters.
- Enter the password and choose the security type. Most home networks use WPA, which also covers WPA2 and WPA3 personal networks.
- Add your logo or colors if you like, then download PNG or SVG.
- Scan it with your own phone first to confirm it connects.
What is inside the code?
A Wi-Fi QR code is plain text in a standard format, for example WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyNetwork;P:mypassword;;. Characters such as backslash, semicolon, comma, colon and quotation marks must be escaped with a backslash, and Loqo does this for you automatically.
Who can scan it?
Recent iPhones and most modern Android phones can join a network directly from the camera app. Very old devices may need a separate scanner app. Keep the written password nearby as a fallback.
Security tips
- Use a guest network. Put the QR code on a separate guest Wi-Fi so visitors never touch your main devices.
- Remember it is static. The password is stored in the image. If you change your password, you must generate and print a new code.
- Think about placement. A code in your living room is fine; a code on a public window shares your password with everyone who sees it.
Where to put it
Frame it on a shelf, add it to a welcome card for a rental property, or print it on a cafe table sign. Read our guide on QR code size for printing so it scans from a comfortable distance.
